FIL EISLER is single at present, so be warned. Having escaped from Communist Czechoslovakia at the age of nine, he then found himself in considerably worse trouble in Forest Hill, South London, where he was 'seriously f***ing bullied for a long time by a collection of horrible motherf***ers to whom I bear absolutely no grudge to this day, unless I see them, the w***ers.' Was it these gruelling formative experiences that fuelled his extraordinary onstage performance, where he dances like a turbocharged pogostick?

Backstage, he warms up for the show by shadowboxing in the mirror. And after the gig he's up for just about anything, in a post-modern kind of way. 'If this is ironic rock and rolling,' he muses, about his latest night's excesses, 'the fact is I am actually doing it. At what point does the irony come in? I've not really sussed that one yet...'

'King energy maker,' says Robbie. 'He gives his all on stage every night. He came up to me once and said, "D'you mind me doing all this movement?" I completely don't. Anybody that wants to give it some on stage is more than welcome.'

Birkenhead butcher's boy CHRIS SHARROCK was eight when he sat behind his first proper drum kit. He hasn't stopped since, working with Dave Stewart, Lou Reed and Del Amitri amongst many others. He met Guy on World Party and has been with Robbie since the beginning.

Backstage, you'll more likely than not find him rolling his own cigarettes or hanging out in Robbie's room, where he's become something of a champion Uno player. Modest about his mystical side, he enjoys a few minutes of quiet meditation under the stage before each gig. 'All the best drummers in the world are dead,' he muses. 'And I include myself in that.'

'He's my little mate,' says Robbie, 'even though he's ten years older than me. I've asked a few drummers who they think the best drummer in the world is - and it's Chris. He's Keith Moon incarnate.'
